Archetype
Stuck in the Middle
Most of your runs sit in the medium-hard 'grey zone' — not easy enough to recover from, not hard enough to build top-end speed.
What it usually looks like
- Most runs sit in the moderate / 'comfortably hard' zone
- Few truly easy days, few truly hard days
- Weekly volume often plateaus
How RunDNA spots it
Intensity verdict = threshold-heavy. Moderate share is the largest bucket.
See the full rules on the methodology page.
Typical limiter
Intensity distribution
Do this
- Slow easy runs by 30–60 sec/km
- Replace one weekly moderate run with intervals (5×3min hard / 2min easy)
Avoid
- Doing every run at 'felt right' pace — it's the same grey-zone trap
