Most of your runs sit in the medium-hard 'grey zone' — not easy enough to recover from, not hard enough to build top-end speed.

What it usually looks like

  • Most runs sit in the moderate / 'comfortably hard' zone
  • Few truly easy days, few truly hard days
  • Weekly volume often plateaus

Do this

  • Slow easy runs by 30–60 sec/km
  • Replace one weekly moderate run with intervals (5×3min hard / 2min easy)

Avoid

  • Doing every run at 'felt right' pace — it's the same grey-zone trap
